Baby friendly choir in Hanover -Tuesday mornings TEMPORARILY ON HOLD (cheers, Covid)
Our new choir runs on Tuesdays mornings from 10.30am-11.30am, upstairs at the Hanover Community Centre, Southover Street. Please make sure you sign up to our mailing list if you'd like to find out about upcoming plans to return.. Contact Sarah if your question isn't answered below!
Is this a kids choir?
No! This is very much a choir for grown-ups, though of course your small people will benefit from the most excellent vibes and lovely singing. Our other popular Thursday evening session is at a tricky time if you have little ones, and most day time activities out there are focussed on the kids. That’s brill, but we want to bring you a group that focuses on YOU and your well-being, at a time and place that you can bring the little one along and sing your heart out, meet like-minded people and have some fun!
What do the little ones do while we sing?
Feed, play, snooze... it’s up to you and them! Feel free to bring along any books/toys you like to keep them entertained while you sing. This is a safe space so while parental supervision is required, no one will get upset if they make a bit of their own delightful noise. Feed/breastfeed whenever you need. Sit or stand or take a break, it’s all groovy. There’s even a breastfeeding drop in downstairs when we finish if you need any support!
Is there space for buggies?
We meet in the upstairs hall of the Hanover Community Centre, so you’ll have a flight of stairs to tackle. Sorry - no lift is available. The lovely people at the venue have advised there’s limited space to park buggies downstairs (around 4), so they recommend slings if possible. We’ll be around if you need a hand though!
Do I need to be great singer / audition / read music?
Absolutely not... everything is taught by ear in a fun and informal environment. There are guide audio tracks to our original arrangements that you’ll be hooked up with when you join, to help you practice if you’re so inclined. We cover lots of vocal technique as we go to help you connect deeply to the power of your own voice and get really playful with it, and like most things in life - the more you do it, the easier it gets! Whether you’re high or low or somewhere in between, there’s a place for you here.
What kind of music will we sing?
A huge variety of classic tunes and unusual treats, from deceptively simple 3 parters to epic 10 part disco! All completely a cappella - that means no naff backing tracks, just the awesome power of the human voice.
Can I try this for free?
Absolutely. We believe in 'try before you buy'! Your first session is always free - just come along to our next Tuesday morning session.
How much does it cost after my free first session?
The drop-in price is £7 but this goes right down to £5 if you pay for the half-term up-front. If you join us in the middle of a term, you can still get the £5/week rate if you pay for the rest of term on your 2nd session! If this isn't clear, just ask when you come along for your free session!
